The Pratt and Whitney Metrology team seeks to implement CMM and automated inspection technology in a new site in Asheville, North Carolina. The job will consist of CMM programming, working with Programming  Contractors and OEMs of Measurement Equipment, and integration of Inspections into a highly automated manufacturing system. This position may begin as work-from-home, or East Hartford Connecticut based work, as the new Asheville, North Carolina facility is completed and brought into production. Occasional work related to
other PW locations worldwide may be requested.

This is a very exciting opportunity for someone looking to literally get in on the ground floor of a new facility and to have an impact across the entire Pratt and Whitney organization.

*This position will initially allow for remote work with the expectation that the candidate will relocate to Asheville, NC upon facility completion.

*Facility completion is currently expected mid-2022. Relocation assistance will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Programming CMMs, writing analysis scripts for CMM and non-contact inspection devices, especially for closed-loop machining environments.
  • Occasional direct measurements of artifacts/parts in the Metrology Lab.
  • Coordination with local procurement and facilities teams when contracting CMM services, making capital purchases, etc.
  • Development of production-ready solutions using newer sensor technology on complex geometries.
  • Integration of automated measurement & test equipment with highly automated manufacturing cell and information systems

Basic Qualifications:

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 10 years of metrology experience OR an
  • Advanced Degree and minimum 6 years metrology experience.
  • Extensive experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • 9+ years of CMM Programming Experience
  • US Citizenship required due to certain government contracts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of metrology experience
  • Aerospace industry experience
  • Specific skills include a mix of : MODUS, PC-DMIS and/or CALYPSO CMM language, analysis software such as GOM, POLYWORKS and/or GEOMAGIC, and other helpful software such as PYTHON, R-STUDIO, MINITAB, NX.
  • Familiarity with writing technical requirements documents for capital purchases and technical services
  • Familiarity with REVO Multi-sensor technologies is a big plus.
  • Knowledge of GD&T per ASMEY14.5, calibration systems per ANSIZ540.3, airfoil geometry
  • Measurement system evaluation (gage R&R, methodology review, correlation studies, etc) in support of Manufacturing Readiness Levels, PPAP, and Process Control
  • Knowledge of automation, robotic integration, RFID system, a plus
  • Must be comfortable working in a shop environment and presenting in technical meetings.
  • Expect occasional travel, especially to benchmark and work with other PW Sites, up to 10%
